n. pl. Foremen. The first or chief man; as: (a) The chief person of a jury, who acts as their speaker. One of the jury appointed by it, or, in some jurisdictions, by the court, as the spokesman of the jury. The foreman has no authority over the jury nor can she control their deliberations. (b) The chief of a set of hands employed in a shop, or on works of any kind, who superintends the rest; an overseer. A superintendent who manages and directs others at work. The title of the presiding member of a grand jury.
