Helpful Hints
  • (1) You can search the entire content of Dean’s by phrase or by individual words. Just type your keywords into the search box and then pull down the search icon on the right and choose the option you need: search by word or by phrase or reset the content.
  • (2) Double click on a word in the content of a definition, and if the word is listed as a keyword in Dean’s, it will look that word up.
  • (3) You can use the search function to help jump the scrolling function. Simply type the first 2-3 letters into the search box then hit enter on your keyboard and the scroll will go to those Keywords that begin with those letters and allow you to scroll from there.

Latin. A copyright obtainable under particular circumstances and enduring for a limited time. Where a book or periodical is first published abroad in the English language, the deposit of one complete copy of such foreign edition in the copyright office, not later than six months after its publication abroad, with a request for the reservation of the copyright and a statement of the name and nationality of the author and copyright proprietor and of the (late of publication, secures to the author or proprietor an ad interim copyright having all the force and effect given to copyright by the Federal Copyright Law, which will endure until the expiration of 5 years after the date of the first publication abroad. 17 USC § 22. If the holder then published the work in the U.S. during the 5-year interim period fully copyright publication relates back to the date of first publication. If the work was not published during the interim period the work went into the public domain.
